"Drop the Remote and Nobody Gets Hurt"
Stinson is fortunate to have Texas PTA President, Pam Meyercord, to present this parent education program to Stinson parents. Television has a tremendous influence on American family life. This workshop looks at the issue of television awareness and demonstrated critical viewing skills and media literacy techniques. Parents learn how to set rules for television viewing and how to stick to those rules, to recognize the ways in which TV can be used to manipulate viewers, to talk to children about violence on TV and to turn what we see into positive and educational discussions.
Note: This program, which will follow a general PTA meeting, is recommended for parents only. Video clips from actual TV shows will be shown, and though rated for general audiences, some scenes may be frightening to younger children. |
